52 Weeks To Better Genealogy – Challenge #2
Go to your local public library branch again. Examine the local history, archives and/or special collections section. Ask a librarian if you don’t know if your library has special collections or where they are located. Be sure to check the reference section, too, as many of the newer and more valuable books are held in that area. If you have a genealogy blog, write about what you find in your library’s local history and special collections. (www.geneablogger.com)
My 2nd visit to the library on 100 West Dearborn Street in downtown Englewood FL was a very brief one. I had to get a book on the local history, from the county/area. And, I found two books I am really looking forward to go into:
- Charlotte Harbor, the early years / by Lindsey Williams and U.S. Cleveland.
- Charlotte Harbor, the later years / by Lindsey Williams and U.S. Cleveland
Since I have started to look into some norwegians in the area, I first have to study the maps and county borders. I know that Charlotte County (where we live) was established April 23, 1921. Before that, we talk about Desoto County or Manatee County. The map is from 1886, when Charlotte Harbor and Punta Gorda was part of Desoto County, but Grove City where we live, was part of the Manatee County, today we are in Charlotte County.
Lots of other resources and sources have to be looked into, I will put some of the info on my blog if I find what I am looking for. Or maybe even if I don’t fint it?
